Cleaning Hacks!

Sometimes, using regular cleaning techniques just isn’t enough to get your home as clean as you’d like. Gunk remains in hard-to-reach places, dust gathers in spots you might not notice, and the list goes on! We created a list of some awesome cleaning hacks for you to use and REALLY get your house CLEAN.

Screens and screen doors

Use a lint roller! Get all that sticky gunk and dust off first with a lint roller, and then spray with your basic household cleaner and wipe with a micro-fiber cloth.

Air vents

Spray an old cloth and wrap it around a butter knife. Slide the cloth and butter knife in between the metal on your air vents to get rid of all that old dust you wouldn’t have been able to reach otherwise!

Baseboards

Are your baseboards looking a little worse-for-wear? Use a Magic Eraser! Generic brands will work too.

Stainless steel sink

Can’t seem to get the stains off of your sink? Make a paste out of baking soda and water, and then scrub it with a sponge. Let it sit for as long as you can, and then rinse. Next, add some olive oil to a rag and shine your sink!

Bathtub

Sprinkle coarse salt around your tub, and then use a grapefruit cut in half as if it were a sponge. It will work like magic to remove soap scum! Rinse the tub out once finished.

Keeping things in order at home is important, but it’s also important to make sure everything is clean indoors! We’d love to be your saving grace this summer.

Reorganizing

Taking the time to reorganize around your house really makes a difference in your daily life! Things will be easier to find, and life will feel much less cluttered. Just follow the tips below!

Organize your recipes.

Purchase three binders, some clear sleeves, and dividers. 1 binder will be for desserts, 1 for holidays, and 1 for everyday recipes. Organize them as you see fit!

Buy a whiteboard for a chore chart.

Hang the whiteboard on your fridge or wall in the kitchen, and update it each week, with assignments for each family member.

Organize your cabinets.

Check under your sinks for any cleaning products that are expired, empty, or in need of replacement. Clean out your kitchen cabinets, and make sure there aren’t any expired items.

Go through your bookshelves.

First, head to the kid(s’) room(s) and go through their books – donate old ones that they don’t read anymore. Then, go through your bookshelf. Pick out your favorites, and donate the ones you haven’t read in the last couple of years.

Color-coordinate your closet.

We know it sounds silly, but doing this will actually force you to go through everything and get rid of old items. It will also help you to find things a bit easier when you’re searching for something!

Summer Cleaning

Summer is about relaxing by the pool, hanging with friends, and much more…but it’s important to remember to clean, re-organize, and keep things tidy around your home as summer begins! We created a guide to help you.

Start with your medicine cabinet.

Be sure to dispose of any old medicine, and replace them if need be. Stock up summertime remedies, like aloe for sunburns, bug spray, calamine lotion, allergy pills, you get the gist!

Home Improvement

Many home improvement companies offer sales and discounts during the summer months, so check around your home for anything that could use some work. Take advantage of the deals while they last!

Spruce things up outdoors.

Clean the grill and be sure to stock up on propane tanks for all those backyard bbq’s you’ll be having. Clean the porch furniture, and set out candles that will repel mosquitos and other critters. Hose off your kids’ playsets and check them for safety (nails sticking out, or screws that need tightened).

Check your home for critters.

Take a walk around the outside of your home and check for any evidence of termites, bee or wasp nests, carpenter ants, etc. You might need to give your exterminator a call!

8 Steps to De-Stress

Juggling work and the kids can be stressful — we know! So, we’ve put together a list of 8 ways you can de-stress right now.

Find the funny in life.

Next time you’re struggling to get to the front door from your car while juggling your toddler in one arm and way more groceries than you can handle in the other, step back! Ask yourself if you were telling this story to a friend, would you be laughing?

Ditch unhealthy habits.

Consuming the wrong kinds of foods and drinks throughout the day can have a huge effect on your stress levels. Choose tea or water instead of coffee or soda. Choose fruit or veggies instead of chips or crackers.

Make time for exercise.

Bring your kiddo with you! Take a long walk with the stroller. Fresh air is one of the best things you can do for stress.

Indulge when you can.

Get a babysitter and go out for date night with that special someone, or meet the girls for drinks! Take breaks. You’re allowed!

When you feel your stress and anxiety taking ahold of your mood, change up your task. Drink a few glasses of water, take a few deep breaths of fresh air. Help yourself feel better!

Feeling stressed is something many people deal with, but you don’t have to suffer! Try things that will make you feel better, and add them to your routine. And while you’re at it, schedule Rise n Shine to come and clean for you. Think of it this way: it’s one less thing you have to do!
