Remove Stains From Leather Furniture

Leather furniture is expensive, thus making it important to keep it clean and stain-free! Unfortunately, life happens, and stains, spills, scratches and other imperfections are hard to avoid.

Before we start, here’s a brush up on the types of leather you’re dealing with:

Aniline-dyed leather: A.k.a “unfinished leather”, this leather looks more natural as it doesn’t have a finishing coat on top.

Pigmented leather: This is the shinier, softer leather that does have a finishing coat added!

With all that being said…do NOT try to clean your aniline-dyed leather at home! Call in an expert, or take it to a store that specializes in furniture cleaning.

As for all you pigmented leather owners, moving on!

Grease Stains

What you’ll need:

  • Microfiber cloth (we like this one)
  • Cornstarch or talcum powder
  • Leather conditioner
  1. Blot your stain
  2. Sprinkle your cornstarch or talcum powder over just the stain
  3. Let sit overnight
  4. In the morning, wipe powder away with a microfiber cloth
  5. Repeat if needed
  6. Use your leather conditioner

Water Stains

You’ll need:

  • Microfiber cloth
  • Distilled water
  • Leather conditioner
  1. Moisten your cloth with water
  2. Start at the center of the stain and move outward in a circular motion
  3. Keep wiping until you can’t see the stain
  4. Let dry, repeat if necessary
  5. Apply leather conditioner

Ink Stains

Unfortunately, these stains can’t really be removed with a home remedy. Good news is, you’ll just need to head over to your office supply or hardware store to find an ink-removal stick, or purchase one online. We like this environmentally friendly one.

Use the stick as directed on the packaging, and then use your leather conditioner.
