5 Steps To Remove Soap Scum
Removing scum from your shower can seem like a tough (not to mention pretty unpleasant) job…but it doesn’t have to be! When you use the right products in the right order, the process will go smoothly and you’ll be left with a sparkly clean shower.
First, run your shower on hot for a little while. This will open up the tiles’ pores and make it much easier to clean.
1. Vinegar and water mixture
Mix 1 part vinegar to 1 part water in a bowl. Mix them up and then fill a spray bottle with the solution. Spray it ALL over your shower – grout and all! Make sure not to use the whole bottle as you’ll need it later.
2. Scrub
Let the solution you’ve just sprayed sit for 20-25 minutes. If it’s really dirty, let it sit for 30-35 minutes. Use a bristle brush to scrub the tiles and then rinse with warm water.
3. Baking Soda Paste
Mix 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water and stir until it forms a paste. Use a sponge to apply the paste and scrub in a circular motion (use more than you think you need). Then, spray the walls with vinegar.
4. More scrubbing!
Use your stiff-bristle br
ush again to scrub any remaining scum, and use a toothbrush for hard-to-reach spots.
5. Rinse
Use warm water to rinse the cleaning materials and scum from the tiles. You may need to do this 3-5 times, so grab a bucket! Then, dry the tiles with a towel.
A really great way to avoid doing this long process often is to maintain your shower’s cleanliness by spraying the tile with vinegar 2-3 times a week! You’ll find that your shower will stay much cleaner for longer this way.
Another easy thing to do is to simply keep your shower dry! Use a towel to wipe down the walls after each use.
