Gardening Tips for Spring

Are you in full springtime gardening mode, cleaning out your flower beds, trimming your hedges, and planning out new planting areas? We’ve got some great gardening tips to help you!

-Do a thorough spring cleanup/fixup.

Level out stepping stones, clean out your gutters, fix fences, clean plant debris out of your garden beds, fix window boxes, and so on.

-Plant for all seasons!

While it’s easy to be drawn to all of the beautiful spring flowers at your local garden center because they’re sure to have all of their azaleas, hydrangeas, snapdragons, and more out this time of year! But it’s important to plan for the rest of the year. If you’ve started a new flower bed, choose different kinds of shrubs as a backdrop that will be alive year-round. Plant (along with your favorite spring flowers) seasonal annual flowers like mums and impatiens for yearlong color!

-Don’t forget fragrant flowers and aromatics.

It’s easy to get preoccupied with flowers and plants that are pleasing to the eye, but don’t forget to plant some that are pleasing to the nose in addition! Bonus: many aromatic flowers are pest repellents! Choose plants like basil, lavender, rosemary, chamomile, and more.

-Add a cutting garden to your yard!

You spend a lot of time and money on making your garden(s) perfect, so why not bring your garden inside as well! Incorporate prolific bloomers that are great for cutting and

placing in vases to enjoy indoors all day long.

-Use sheets or towels to cover your flower beds/gardens if need be.

Spring frosts and freezes are still a possibility this time of year, and you don’t want to lose your progress! Keep an eye on the forecast and cover your garden with some old towels or sheets if necessary.

General home:

-Wash throw pillow covers and blankets.

-Dust blinds.

-Dust all ceiling fans (if they’re particularly dirty, we like to vacuum them as best we can, and then wipe them fully clean).

-Buff or paint over any scuffs in the walls.

Kitchen:

-Pull appliances out so you can vacuum and clean under and behind them.

-Organize the pantry and cabinets. Pull out dishes and wipe the shelves out!

-Turn on your oven’s self-clean feature and scrub the microwave.

-Clean and then organize the fridge and throw out any old food or condiments.

Bedrooms/closets:

-Vacuum and then rotate/flip mattresses.

-Sort through clothes. If you haven’t worn something in over two years, it’s time to donate it!

Bathrooms:

-Launder hand and bath towels and rugs.

-Wash or replace shower liner.

-Clean out and reorganize medicine cabinets and drawers.

-Throw out any old lotions, makeups, soaps, etc.

Springtime Decor

Spring is on its way! Get ready by stocking up on some beautiful spring decor to add to your home’s feng shui!

Florals, florals everywhere!

Whether you like real or faux, flower arrangements are always the perfect go-to for spring! Put them in your planters and hang a wreath on your door, add them as a centerpiece on your tables or kitchen island, and so on.

Florals don’t have to be tangible.

Decorate with floral prints in frames, too! These look gorgeous in black frames.

Use GREEN!

Not a fan of colorful flowers? Use plants instead. We like fiddle leaf fig plants a lot.

Brighten up the room with pillows and throws.

Use pastel shades for your throw pillows and blankets on beds and in the living room! Love a neural look? Just go with white, cream, light gray, and so on. Light pink is fun for Easter!

Sprinkle spring decor around the table!

Use bright or pastel colors for your tablecloth, napkins, and placemats. Checkers/plaid in light colors are cute patterns for these items.

Switch out vases and candles.

Find some floral-scented candles for the coffee table, and switch out your vases with some brighter colored ones!

Find some cute ceramic bunnies or eggs to decorate with.

Target or your local thrift store might have something fun!

Living Room Decorating

With the new year just hitting, you might be itching to switch things up at home a bit! So we’ve come up with all of our best decorating advice/ideas for your LIVING ROOM!!

Be creative with your coffee table.

Change things up a bit! Your coffee table doesn’t have to be filled with some big books and candles (unless that’s your jam). Try something more quirky like some homemade flower vases or hit the thrift store for something out of the ordinary that’ll be a conversation starter!

Change up the ‘neutral’ look!

Staying neutral is easy, but it’s really fun when you add some pops of color. Stick with neutral colors for your base pieces, like couches and the coffee table. Then, opt for a more brightly colored accent chair, like green or red. Choose art with bright colors in it for the walls. Pick out a fun lamp!

Keep your area in mind.

If you’re someone who lives at the beach, it might be fun to add a piece of coral to your mantle. If you’re someone who lives in the city, purchase a print of a map of the city you live in (or wherever you want!) and frame it!

Have fun with throw pillows.

ALL the colors and ALL the textures!

Add color to the floor.

When you have neutral furniture and/or walls, a brightly colored rug will STAND OUT.

Focus on the fireplace.

If your fireplace is surrounded by brick, paint it a new color, like light gray or navy! Or choose some new tiles to add if it’s not brick.

Display books.

This one is common, but it’s so fun! If you love books, show the world (or at least everyone who comes to your house…)!
